Matt was hired at NREL in April of 2008. Currently, he works for the Hydrogen Production, Power, and Storage Group in the Energy Conversion and Storage Systems Center under the Mechanical and Thermal Engineering Sciences Directorate. He works on and leads projects that aim to develop and integrate hydrogen infrastructure systems and is part of the Hydrogen Safety Research & Development (HSR&D) Team. He also currently leads the fuel cell electric bus evaluation projects. Previously at NREL, he worked in the Technology Validation Group in the Transportation and Hydrogen System Center where he worked on secure data transfer and analysis of hydrogen systems using MATLAB. His focus was data analysis of fuel cell systems in public transit.  He also previously worked in the Safety Codes & Standards Group in the Hydrogen Technologies and Systems Center. His main project involved providing specialized expertise on process and instrumentation for the Safety Sensor Testing Laboratory. Prior to starting at NREL, he worked as a Research Associate at Eltron Research & Development Inc in Boulder, CO from 2001 to 2008. He graduated in 1999 from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI with a B.S. in Environmental Science – Chemistry Emphasis and a minor in Geology.
