Konstantinos Meichanetzidi

Head of Product Development
Quantinuum

Konstantinos Meichanetzidis is an interdisciplinary researcher working at the intersection of quantum computing and artificial intelligence. He is the head of product development at Quantinuum.

He spent a number of years as a senior research scientist in the Compositional Intelligence team at Quantinuum, leading a diverse team of quantum engineers, machine learning engineers, quantum physicists, and theoretical computer scientists, with the vision of developing structured-informed quantum-inspired classical algorithms as well as quantum algorithms for AI. He led the design and implementation of the first proof-of-concept Compositional Natural Language Processing experiments on quantum processors.

After studying physics in Athens, Konstantinos obtained his PhD from the University of Leeds, working in quantum information and condensed matter physics. Upon graduation, he was awarded two postdoctoral fellowships, namely the EPSRC doctoral prize and the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, to conduct independent research.

During this time, he developed connections between seemingly disparate fields of research. He introduced a fully graphical treatment of problems in counting complexity and knot theory that have a natural representation as tensor networks, and he pioneered quantum compositional natural language processing.

Currently, his interest lies in the application of heuristic algorithms, which include AI methods such as reinforcement learning and language models, to the optimisation of both classical and quantum algorithms.
