Michael Firstenberg is director of industrial security at Waterfall Security Solutions (Marlton, NJ; Website: www.waterfall-security.com; Email: michaelf@waterfall-security.com), where he focuses on security research and training in the field of cybersecurity for process control, industrial automation, and critical infrastructure. He has two decades of experience in industrial control system security, specializing in cybersecurity, and has worked with government agencies, regulatory authorities, and industrial utilities. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the Univ. of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he studied computer science, chemical engineering, and mathematics. He is a former chair of the American Water SCADA Council and has served as a speaker and panelist at numerous conferences and events around the world. He is an active member of the International Society of Automation (ISA), where he participates in its SP99 Security Standards Committee and serves on committees that have created industrial cybersecurity guidelines and roadmaps.
