The Virtual Local Section of AIChE will host an in-person cocktail hour with speaker, Dave Dickey, presenting ”So You Want to be an Independent Consultant?”

So You Think You Want to be an Independent Consultant?

David S. Dickey
MixTech, Inc.

David has been an independent consultant since 1998.  He specializes in mixing processes and equipment, including both liquid and powder mixing.  His primary business is providing advice and guidance on making improvements to existing processes and equipment.  He does not make or sell mixing equipment, but does provide recommendations on the design, modification, evaluation and application of mixing equipment.  He teaches courses on liquid mixing, powder mixing and liquid mixing scale-up.  He has been an expert witness for litigations.

His presentation on consulting will provide general information about being an independent consultant along with some specific thoughts from his own experience.  Independent consulting is not for everyone.  Just being an expert on a subject may not be enough.  It takes good experience, business sense, and the right attitude to be successful.  If it were easy, everyone would do it.

David has a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois and a MS and PhD in chemical engineering from Purdue University.  He has worked for industrial mixing equipment companies and other process equipment suppliers.  He has written more than fifty articles and book chapters on mixing.  He is a Fellow of the AIChE and active in the North American Mixing Forum (NAMF).
