Hydrogen: Myths and Realities

IChemE and AIChE, two professional societies dedicated to advancing the application of chemical engineering expertise internationally, are producing a webinar series as part of a collaboration aimed at advancing the adoption of hydrogen as an industrial energy carrier. In this webinar, you’ll explore the essence of hydrogen’s role in the energy transition, unravel common misconceptions about hydrogen, grasp its distinctive hazards, and be part of the conversation shaping the future of energy.

This easy-to-understand webinar is tailored for individuals who seek comprehensive insights into hydrogen's current production methods, diverse applications, and transformative impact across various industries, including transportation and industrial processes. Additionally, participants will explore the logistics of expanding hydrogen infrastructure and gain invaluable insights into the challenges, opportunities, and strategies crucial for its seamless integration into energy transition plans. Safety is emphasized throughout, highlighting the paramount importance of understanding hydrogen's hazards, evaluating risks, and implementing mitigation measures to ensure its safe deployment. Expert speakers will share knowledge on hydrogen safety, covering fundamental fire and explosion characteristics and emphasizing differences from other gases, notably natural gas.

In one hour, you’ll:

         • Review the historical use and significance and modern applications of hydrogen.

         • Explore the current landscape of hydrogen production and its potential impact on energy transition plans.

         • Learn how to determine if hydrogen use is always appropriate.

         • Identify strategies to navigate the logistical challenges of scaling up hydrogen infrastructure for a sustainable future.

         • Discover how to assess potential applications.
