Description

The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites applications for a senior faculty position in the broad area of clean energy and carbon neutrality. The ideal candidate will be an established scholar whose work complements the department’s existing strengths in energy harvesting and storage; carbon dioxide capture and utilization; and hydrogen production, storage, transport, and utilization. The candidate’s research could be experimental or computational in nature. Exceptional candidates at the Associate Professor level will be considered. The successful candidate should expect to participate in and, when appropriate, lead large multi-investigator proposals and projects that engage faculty members within and beyond the department. Over the past decade, the department has experienced unprecedented growth, and we expect to reach 30 faculty by the start of the 2025-26 academic year. Throughout this expansion, we have maintained a highly collegial and collaborative environment, while enhancing diversity of our faculty across multiple dimensions. Our externally funded research expenditures will exceed $10M for the 2023-24 fiscal year. We have about 160 graduate students and publish approximately 180 refereed journal articles per year. According to Google Scholar, average citations per T/TT faculty member were ~1000/year from 2021-2023, reflecting the exceptional ambition, research productivity and impact of our students, post-docs, and faculty members. CBE is one of nine departments in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, which is committed to research innovation, student support, and a culture of equity and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty.
