The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and John Wiley and Sons, Inc. (NYSE:JWa) (NYSE:JWb) announce the launch of a new quarterly, peer-reviewed journal, Journal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing. Set to debut in Spring 2019, the new journal will focus on capturing leading-edge manufacturing techniques and technologies that reduce costs, save energy, and create solutions that address societal needs. Readership will include engineering professionals with interests in advanced manufacturing, process intensification, process enhancement, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, cell and tissue manufacturing, remanufacturing, and sustainability.

The journal’s editorial team is led by Editor-in-Chief Matthew Realff (Georgia Institute of Technology) and Deputy Editors Jan Lerou (Jan Lerou Consulting, LLC) and Michael Rinker (Pacific Northwest National Laboratory).

Realff explained the new journal’s relevance: “Advanced manufacturing enables the production of complex products that effectively meet society’s goals for cost, efficacy, and low resource use. By default, advanced manufacturing should be sustainable manufacturing. That is, we must consider the impacts of our processing systems throughout the supply chain and seek technological innovation to lower their footprint. The Journal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing will provide a venue for research that will allow us to achieve that.”

“We are excited to create this platform for subject matter experts to share their knowledge and research and stay abreast of fast-moving developments, including technology breakthroughs and best practices,” said June Wispelwey, Executive Director of AIChE. “With its three-pronged focus — on chemical manufacturing and processing, smart manufacturing, and biological and biochemical manufacturing — the Journal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing covers topics as wide-ranging as process intensification, modularization, sensors and automation, additive manufacturing, nanofabrication, cell and tissue manufacturing, and biopharmaceutical processing, among others. Our hope is that by showcasing the work of engineers and scientists in these diverse areas, the journal might serve as a catalyst to spur new interdisciplinary collaborations and even further advances in advanced manufacturing.”

Published in partnership with Wiley, Journal of Advanced Manufacturing and Processing will add to the already prestigious portfolio of AIChE journals. Wiley has partnered with AIChE since 2003, publishing five journals (AIChE Journal, Bioengineering & Translational Medicine, Biotechnology Progress, Environmental Progress & Sustainable Energy, and Process Safety Progress) and a books program on their behalf.

“We are proud to partner with AIChE in the expansion of their journal portfolio. We strongly support the institute’s goal to impact the manufacturing field through highlighting new research from top engineers and scientists in the field,” said Swapna Padhye, Editorial Director of US Society Services at Wiley.
