What are cookies?
Cookies are small pieces of data stored by websites you visit, via your web browser, on your computer or other device. Cookies are widely used by websites to ‘remember’ information about you in order to improve your web browsing experience, to provide more relevant content, and to improve services by analyzing how visitors use websites and apps.
Cookies may be set by the site that you are visiting (known as ‘first party cookies’), or by other websites that are allowed to serve content on that site (‘third party cookies’). Data stored in cookies can be long lasting (‘persistent cookies’, which stay on the computer for a significant time) or transient (‘session cookies’, which are deleted when the browser is closed). Data stored in cookies may or may not be personal in nature. To learn more about cookies, visit http://www.aboutcookies.org.
Does AIChE use cookies?
Yes, we use a number of different cookies on our site. The list below describes the cookies we use and what we use them for. Currently, we operate an ‘implied consent’ policy which means that we assume you are okay with this usage. If you are not okay, then you should either not use this site, or you should delete the cookies having visited the site by clearing your browsing history, or you should browse the site using your browser’s anonymous usage setting (called “Incognito” in Chrome, “InPrivate” for Internet Explorer, “Private Browsing” in Firefox and Safari etc).
What cookies are used by AIChE and why?
First-party cookies
These are cookies that are set directly by AIChE. After you sign in, AIChE stores your name, email address, your membership status and customer identifier, and various technical (non personally-identifying) data in first-party cookies. This data enables AIChE websites to recognize you as an existing user, so that it is possible to interact with the website without having to sign in again and again. AIChE’s mobile apps similarly store data in cookies after you sign in so as to enable you to use the app without having to sign in again. This ‘first party cookie’ data is not shared with any third parties via or in relation to cookies, and is strictly necessary for the operation of AIChE’s websites and apps, as built.
AIChE uses Google Analytics to collect information about how AIChE websites are being used. This is done without AIChE sharing any personal data with Google but enabled Google to set a number of first party cookies. Google Analytics uses its own technologies and data to record information about your location, device, pages you visit, how long you are on the site, how you got here, when, and what you click on. This data is not tied to your personal information at AIChE.
AIChE also uses Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting to collect information about visitor data such as age, gender and interests. Again, this information is not based on AIChE sharing any data with Google, cannot be used to identify who you are, and is for internal analysis only. If you wish to opt-out of Google Analytics tracking, download and install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
You can find out more about Google’s position on privacy regarding its analytics service at http://www.google.com/intl/en/policies/privacy/.
All first party cookies are deleted when you sign out.

You should be aware that these sites could be collecting information about what web pages you are visiting all around the internet, including this website. You can check the respective policies of each of these sites to see how exactly they use your information and to find out how to opt out, or delete, such information.
