Controlling the orientation of the transition dipole moment, an electronic transition that governs photon emission, in luminous materials is an effective strategy to improve the efficiency light emitting diodes and photonic devices. Learning from the mechanism behind the orientation of these transitions in phosphorescent organometallics, we new tools to control the organization and light emission from organized films of CsPbBr3 perovskite nanoparticles. These particles provide truly controllable photonic platforms, with light emission primarily dependent on the local dielectric environment, interfaces, and particle size. By modulating the density of particle packing and the particle surface coatings we greatly improved the orientation of the transition dipoles for use in light emitting devices.
