Catalysis on Low Dimensional Materials I: Carbides and Nitrides
Monday, November 16, 2020 - 8:00am to 8:15am
In this talk, I will discuss a group of low dimensional single and bi-metallic transition-metal carbides and nitrides, known as MXenes, as well as layered nano-structured oxides and oxynitrides. The topic will be H2O chemistry, specifically the hydrogen evolution and oxygen evolution reactions, as well as the nitrogen reduction reaction. The focus will be on the relationship between the atomic-scale structure and chemistry of the respective material. These systems exhibit active sites with unique local geometric and electronic chemical environments. I will compare the similarities and differences between the considered transition-metal compound materials. In addition, our computational results will be compared to existing experimental data.
