(269a) Tutorial on Bioelectrocatalysis for Applications Ranging from Sensing to Energy to Synthesis

This tutorial will introduce the concept of bioelectrocatalysis. It will discuss microbial and enzymatic catalysts as well as mediated and direct electron transfer systems. The tutorial will discuss the basic concepts and recent advances in materials engineering for promoting electron transfer and bioengineering for improving the performance of the biocatalysts. This will include discussion about enzyme engineering approaches, as well as approaches to utilize enzyme cascades for improve performance. After introducing the basic scientific and engineering concepts of bioelectrocatalysis, this tutorial will discuss applications ranging from biosensing to biofuel cells for energy harvesting and finally electrosynthesis.
