Waste feedstock type and composition plays a significant role not just in the hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) process but also in upgrading HTL biocrudes to fuels trickle-bed hydrotreating. This presentation will compare the HTL and HTL upgrading process for a variety of wet waste feedstocks, including sewage sludge, pig manure, dairy manure, biosolids, and other feedstocks, to ultimately produce fuel blendstocks. Under identical upgrading conditions, we will report final fuel properties, including SIMDIS, N, O, S, and density. We will report characterization of intermediates and reactor performance (e.g., hydrogen consumption).
