Research Interests

I have broad training and experience in the design, synthesis and characterization of organic materials, organometallic complexes and nanoparticles, and optoelectronic devices. My work spans a diverse suite of applications, but focuses on common materials that interact strongly with light and charge. My research lab will focus on two primary projects: the design, synthesis and characterization of photoactive materials and optoelectronic devices, and the development of theranostic dyes based on the same molecules and nanoparticles. We will create organometallic phosphors, luminous nanoparticles and organic transport materials for use in light sources with nearly double our present efficiencies and high capacity energy storage systems. The same systems will be used to create contrast agents that enable unprecedented resolution in multimodal imaging systems while simultaneously treating disease.
