In 2019 the Net-Zero Carbon Fuels Technical Team (NZTT) was initiated by the U.S. DRIVE Partnership (a non-binding and voluntary government-industry partnership focused on advanced automotive and related energy infrastructure technology research and development) with the following Mission Statement: âDrive research, development, and demonstration of renewable energy solutions for the transportation sector through a consensus assessment of the carbon intensity, technoeconomic readiness, and challenges for volume implementation of net-zero carbon fuel pathwaysâ. The scope of NZTT includes investigation of liquid carbon fuels and proposing solutions for generating fuels with a reduced carbon intensity such that, from a life cycle carbon account standpoint, they have a net emissions profile of zero. As part of its scope, the Tech Team is conducting process analyses to examine the conditions required for economic viability and eventual demonstration of the most promising technologies. This ongoing analysis will be discussed in this presentation.
