(237b) Oxygen Electrocatalysis on Two-Dimensional Graphene or Hexagonal Boron Nitride Materials

For electrochemical energy conversion and storage technologies to become viable component of future sustainable energy infrastructures, the development of catalysts that are active, selective, stable and inexpensive is required. In this talk I will highlight research efforts on the development and understanding of two-dimensional materials for oxygen reduction electrocatalysis that find application in fuel cell and metal-air battery applications. Particularly, a discussion the development of graphene-based catalysts that has been a hot topic of research over the past decade. Examples of graphene-based catalysts will be highlighted, included the insight that has been gathered regarding their performance based on extensive materials testing and characterization. This presentation will also summarize the key lessons that have been learned as a result of cumulative research efforts into two-dimensional graphene-based materials as electrocatalysts.
