(276c) Tutorial on Bioelectrocatalysis for Applications Ranging from Sensing to Energy to Synthesis

Authors

Minteer, S. - Presenter, University of Utah
This tutorial will focus on introducing the listener to the field of bioelectrocatalysis. It will compare and contrast direct and mediated bioelectrocatalysis and discuss the different types of biocatalysts that can be used for bioelectrocatalysis (i.e. enzymatic, DNAzyme, chloroplast, microbes, etc.). The tutorial will discuss the different bioelectrode design principles associated with each of the common applications of bioelectrocatalyis, including: biosensors, biofuel cells, biobatteries, bioelectronics, biosolar cells, and bioelectrosynthesis. This will include a discussion of both the materials engineering strategies as well as the biochemical engineering strategies to address grand challenges in each of these electrochemical application areas.
