(503b) MEB: The Sun in the Center of the ChE Universe

Authors

Bullard, L. - Presenter, North Carolina State University
The material and energy balance (MEB) course is arguably the most important course in the chemical engineering curriculum with regard to both content and impact. It forms the foundation of the material that will be revisited, layer by layer, in successive ChE core courses. Students in MEB make the decision to continue in the major – or not – based on their experience in the course. Impressions formed in MEB frame the context of how students view chemical engineering as a discipline and a future profession. Best practices for teaching MEB as well as the course’s implicit challenges will be discussed.
