Research Interests in Chemical Process Systems Engineering Tools in Vaccine Manufacturing

Systems engineering tools can be integrated for vaccine manufacturing to bring much-needed vaccines to the public. Lean tools can be part of the management of vaccine manufacturing facility in order to reduce different types of waste. Online or Kanban (scheduling) system is a platform for manufacturing managers and process engineers to create a list of requests for testing, troubleshooting and on-site inspections to prevent any delay in the operations. Failure mode and effects analysis can be applied to allow flexibility in the layout of materials and equipment to increase the production capacity. Furthermore, risk identification and multi-criteria decision analysis are also tools that can be applied in scenarios, when single-use disposables can be better than stainless tanks for large-scale biomanufacturing. With regards to developing the workforce for this industry, mentorship and leadership are also important. In my poster, I present tools on data-driven management science and systems optimization, that would benefit chemical engineers, who are shifting their career paths to vaccine processing.
