Renewable power generated from wave energy has faced technological and cost barriers that have hindered its penetration into utility-scale electricity markets. As an alternative, the production of chemical fuelsâfor example, ammonia (NH3), which has a high energy density (11.5 MJ/L) and facile storage propertiesâmay open wave energy to new markets including ocean exploration and transportation. We developed a unique catalyst and tested its performance toward nitrogen reduction reaction using the rotating round disk electrode (RRDE) method. The current density increased 0.25 mA/cm2 after switching the gas from Ar to N2 and the production rate of NH3 and Faradaic efficiency (FE) are in the top list of reported results.
