Lessons Learned from Teaching Chemical Engineering Online I (How We Changed Our Courses)
Monday, November 8, 2021 - 8:18am to 8:36am
The Department of Chemical Engineering at MIT has seen a rapid growth in digital learning activities over the past few years. In this talk, we will showcase completed and ongoing digital learning projects and discuss the departmentâs strategic vision. We will present three Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) on edX: â10.50.1x Analysis of Transport Phenomena I: Mathematical Methodsâ, â10.50.2x Analysis of Transport Phenomena II: Applicationsâ, and â10.S95x Physics of COVID-19 Transmissionâ; one Small Private Online Course (SPOC): â10.MBCx Math Boot Camp for Engineersâ; and other residential projects using digital tools guided by research-based teaching practices. We will share the lessons learned from producing digital educational contents, including videos, graphics, and assessments. Finally, we will explain our departmental strategy for continuing our digital learning work both residentially and globally.
