Heavy Metals Extraction By Intensifying Method of Emulsion Liquid Membrane with Nanoparticles in W1 Phase & Ionic Liquid in O Phase

A new technique of the Emulsion Liquid Membrane (ELM) enhanced with the combination of nanoparticles (MgO & Al2O3) in the internal receiving phase (W1) and ([OMIM]PF6) ionic liquid in the organic phase (O) for removing Pb+2 & V+5 from synthetic wastewater has been implemented. As a result, Pb+2 removing efficacy has been improved noticeably to 95.8% in 3 min for 0.01% (W/W) of MgO NPs in the W1 phase and 5% (V/V) ([OMIM]PF6) ionic liquid in the O phase, and 94.6 % in 3 min for 0.01% (W/W) of Al2O3 NPs in W1 phase and ([OMIM]PF6) ionic liquid in the O phase. However, the V+5 removing efficacy has been improved noticeably to 98.6 % in 3 min by using 0.01% (W/W) of MgO NPs and 5% (V/V) ([OMIM]PF6) ionic liquid in the O phase, and 97.7 % in 3 min by using 0.01% (W/W) of Al2O3 NPs and 5% (V/V) ([OMIM]PF6) ionic liquid in the O phase. In addition, the emulsion stability was enhanced significantly, which gave the lowest leakage to 16% for three days. The conclusion of this work includes the removal of heavy metal & hydrocarbons and polar pollutants from industrial wastewater and water effectively using the newly developed technology of ELM enhanced by nanoparticles and ionic liquid.
