Advances in Metabolic Engineering- Prokaryotic Organisms

Chair(s)

Varman, A. M., Arizona State University

Co-chair(s)

Jones, A., MIAMI UNIVERSITY

Metabolic engineering is the targeted improvement of cellular metabolic phenotype by employing recombinant DNA technology and other advanced synthetic biology approaches. This session emphasizes applications of metabolic engineering in prokaryotic model microbial hosts. Approaches are mostly experimental and are focused on a specific pathway and metabolites rather than metabolism as a whole. Example areas include: strategies to enhance the production of natural products, pathway engineering for the production of novel products or utilization of novel feedstocks, and the application of evolutionary techniques for improving production of a metabolite of interest.
