This session will honor the life and work of our late colleague, James W. Swan, who passed away suddenly in November 2021. Jim was Class of ’22 Career Development Chair at MIT, where he had recently earned tenure and been on the faculty since 2013. He made a number of fundamental contributions to the fluid mechanics and rheology of colloids and complex fluids and was very active in service to the AIChE Area 01J community. Speakers in this session will contribute a combination of their own work in collaboration with or inspired by Jim’s research, as well as memories and recollections of Jim as a scholar, colleague, teacher and friend.
