The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has impacted life, the economy, and chemical engineering around the planet. Chemical engineers are at the forefront of developing novel engineering and medical solutions to track, prevent, and treat this disease. This session highlights their contributions to this disease particularly and pandemics generally. Topics of interest include but are certainly not limited to vaccine and therapeutic development; pandemic diagnostics, sensors, and detection; viral characterization, stability, infectivity; immunology; lung injury; acute respiratory distress syndrome; epidemic and population modeling; immunology; transmission and natural history studies; acute respiratory distress syndrome; life support; machine learning supporting pandemic analysis; etc. The session is also interested in how chemical engineers have responded to engineering challenges presented by the disease.
