Particle mechanics and solids handling in the process industries

Chemical and processes industries use and modify, transport, and process all types of particulates and granulate materials. It is becoming increasingly possible to bring more details about the behavior of particles at the macro-scale depending on particle characteristics (Geldart group, size, density, shape, cohesion, etc.). In a range of applications for example biomass refining, green chemicals manufacturing, and fluidized bed and catalytic reactors, understanding the flowability and behavior of discrete solid particles can lead to better understanding of design and operation of equipment and processes. In this Workshop, we will show some perspective on the role of particle mechanics and the opportunities that engineering and simulation may play in solid handling and solid-fluid equipment design.
