Therapeutic tissue regeneration using stem cells has been hampered by the controversial identity of resident stem cells, low cell retention/engraftment, tumorigenecity and immunogenicity issues. Approaches are taken to refine cell therapies by developing acelluar therapeutics such as stem cell-derived secretome and exosomes for lung regeneration. Exosomes could also be used as drug delivery carriers to the lung. In addition, we will introduce some recent works on inhalable bioadhesives for lung defense.
