(177g) Driving Sustainability: The Role of Plastics in the Automotive Industry

Plastics have transformed the automotive industry, contributing to automobile design, weight reduction, fuel efficiency, safety, and sustainability. This work presents the applications of plastics in the automotive sector and evaluates their properties along with their major drawbacks. Also, the challenges for sustainable recycling of automotive plastic waste are presented. Finally, the presentation provides information on the strategies of some major automotive companies in managing the challenges attributed to the sustainable recycling of their plastic waste products.
