(229f) Air Quality Monitoring with Thingspeak

Authors

Numerous environmental scientists work with air quality data collected from field sensors, employing various computational tools for preprocessing, visualization, and modeling. In this talk, we will illustrate our use of ThingSpeak, an Internet of Things (IoT) platform with advanced MATLAB analytics, to obtain, analyze, and visualize CO2 data. Additionally, we will elaborate on how we employed the platform to trigger actions, such as activating a fan for ventilation when critical concentrations are reached. MATLAB provides numerous options for analyzing the data, including curve fitting, machine learning, and statistical methods. Since ThingSpeak aggregates the data in the cloud, it facilitates easy access and sharing. ThingSpeak proves useful in academic research, classroom settings, and industrial applications and we will share some success stories from the field. Moreover, as MATLAB is widely used in engineering and science, it promotes seamless collaboration among environmental engineers and other engineering disciplines in working with environmental data.
