This paper explores the professional journey of a chemical engineer who transitioned from a technical career in research and development and process development/optimization to a chemical industry policy and scientific advocacy. Chemical Engineers, equipped with a strong technical foundation whether at the bachelor's, master's or doctoral levels, can combine their technical expertise and penchant for innovation with a motivation to influence broader industry practices and informed regulatory frameworks. The often interdisciplinary nature of chemical engineering, and unique viewpoint from industry experience, can accelerate and shape sustainable and scientifically informed chemicals management. This paper uses a case example of skills and experience to help other chemical engineers explore transitioning their own career, the impact of engineering expertise in the regulatory arena, and the landscape of chemicals management policy around the world.
