(315c) My Life As a Boomerang Chemical Engineer: Lessons and Implications from Engineering Role Identity Research

Presentation by the recipient of the 2023 Award for Research in Chemical Engineering Education.

For significant research contributions on engineering role identity development of diverse students and translation into evidence-based practices and policies for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This talk will describe my research trajectory into engineering education research and back into a chemical and biomolecular engineering department and the influence these positions have had on the type of research I have pursued. I will discuss some of my early career fundamental research on engineering role identity and more recent efforts on effective pedagogies and practices to improve the climate of engineering and chemical engineering for women, Black, Latino/a/x, and Indigenous students, and individuals at the intersections of these and other marginalized identities.
