Dunn, J. - Presenter, Northwestern University
In low-carbon fuel policy, life cycle assessment guides the production of biofuels and hydrogen. Life cycle assessment for these technologies is relatively mature and can shed light on potential methodological strategies and pitfalls for life cycle assessment of minerals needed for energy storage and other clean energy transition technologies. This presentation will address methodological issues, data gaps, and the state of the field to date. It will make recommendations for experimentalists, industry, and systems analysts to collaborate towards an effective holistic approach to the transition that limits adverse environmental and societal effects.
