(442b) Fast Track Technology De-Risking, Scale-up and Commercialization Via Hybrid Simulation – Laboratory Virtual Piloting and Demonstration

This paper will examine the combination of fit-for-purpose bench scale laboratory experiments combined with digital simulation to enable direct scaling from bench to commercial, limiting the need for continuous piloting and demonstration scale-up for many systems. The methodology can be used for early identification of preferred process concepts on the basis of ease and speed of scaling, with many examples of unit operation prototypes for reaction and separation. Examples of where fast track development was successfully deployed will be provided, along with examples where process and technology required traditional slower pathways through full piloting and separate demonstration.
