Modifications, functionalization and processing of biomaterials

Chair(s)

Co-chair(s)

Du, H., Auburn University

Sustainable materials from renewable resources play crucial roles in the bioeconomy for decarbonization, energy security, and environmental mitigation. To produce multiple-function biomaterials to meet various needs, diversified chemical modification and functionalization approaches, and advanced chemical processing methods have recently been investigated to enhance their functionality, performance, and sustainability. This session will focus on chemical modifications, functionalization, and applications of bio-derived sustainable materials that utilize biobased raw material (e.g., forestry and plant biomass, chitosan) or its processed products (e.g., nanocellulose, nanolignin) as a design element.
