Nanocomposites, Coatings, and Hybrid Multiscale Systems

Chair(s)

Goudeli, E., University of Melbourne

Nanoscale coatings on larger particles play a crucial role in modulating the surface properties of nanocomposites. Such nanocoatings can impose new chemical, physical, optical, electronic, or biological functions. Functionalities of the coatings can include, but are not limited to, optical (photo), thermal, mechanical, and magnetic properties, with applications in drug delivery, sensors, energy conversion and storage, and environmental processes. This session focuses on synthesis, interactions, characterization, processing, or applications for nanoparticles with coatings or nanocoatings on particles. Focus areas include: • Nanoparticle aerosols and colloids with multifaceted functionalities, including nanoparticles for sensing devices, aggregates for plasmonic enhancement, self-assemblies (superlattices), nanoparticle fluids, ceramics • Ligand-stabilized nanoparticles • Interfacial phenomena, interactions between the particle surface, ligands, and solvents • Nanoparticle-polymer composites.
