Nanostructured Materials for Bioimaging and Theranostics

Chair(s)

Teleki, A., Uppsala University

Inorganic nanoparticles have unique electrical, magnetic and optical properties that can add functionalities in diagnostic tools and novel therapies. The incorporation of such nanoparticles in drug formulations is a key driver for the development of theranostic modalities that can also support personalized medicines. A key breakthrough in the area has been the development of quantum dots, a discovery also recently awarded with the Nobel Prize, that can overcome shortcomings encountered with conventional organic dyes. Another example are iron oxide-based nanoparticles that pave the way for novel imaging modalities such as magnetic particle imaging. This session focuses on advancements in the field of bioimaging and biosensing, where nanoparticles serve as integral components for advancing diagnostics and therapeutic interventions. Key areas of focus include: • Nanoparticle-based bioimaging technologies for enhanced precision and sensitivity for diagnostic applications • Synthesis and optimization of inorganic nanoparticles for bioimaging, e.g. quantum dots, metal, metal oxide and lanthanide doped nanoparticles • Nanoparticles as contrast agents for e.g. magnetic imaging techniques • Theranostic formulations
