A hybrid and cheap catalyst, silver oxide/carbon dots supported on hydroxyapatite-zeolite (AgO/CDs/HAZ) was efficiently synthesized in this study. An exceptional catalytic activity of the prepared AgO/CDs/HAZ catalyst was observed for the degradation of carbon tetrachloride (CTC) in the dark area. Dynamic restructuring of AgO phase occurred in the reactive environments that resulted the significant increase in the electron transport and promoted the degradation of CTC. A further boost in the restructuring of the AgO due to the photo generated charges was experienced by the introduction of visible light illumination. The electron donating capability of CDs, higher surface area and the porosity of HAZ and the effective interfacial bonding among the charge transport channels accumulatively played important role in the efficient degradation of CTD. The mole normalized rate of AgO/CDs/HAZ was fifteen times greater than that of the AgO alone.
