Zhejiang Petroleum Chemical Co., Ltd. (ZPC) is located at the Xiaoyushan island in Zhoushan city, Zhejiang Province, China. ZPC is developing several mega scale grassroots integrated refinery and petrochemical complexes on the island. It is becoming one of the world largest petrochemical production bases.

TechnipFMC was selected to provide the proprietary ethylene technology and process design for ZPC. TechnipFMC provided key proprietary technology components including a Heat Integrated Rectifier System, Ripple Trays™ and Wet Air Oxidation process. TechnipFMC’s Ultra Selective Conversion (USC®) U-coil ethylene technology is preferred for its high energy efficiency and high yields. Phase 1 ethylene plant can produce 1400KTA ethylene. The plant can process heavy feeds, such as hydrogenation cracked tail oil; liquid feeds, such as refinery naphtha and raffinate; and vapor feeds, such as LPG and ethane rich gas. It only took 42 months from PDP design to plant startup. On spec product was achieved within 3 days after feed in. This paper will discuss the ethylene plant design features and the startup experiences.
