Effective Process Safety Programs III: Operational Excellence
Tuesday, April 20, 2021 - 1:30pm to 1:50pm
In early 2019 â FMC utilized the MBWA technique to focus on life critical standard implementation (e.g. Line Breaking, Isolation, etc.) and occupational safety systems with great success.
In late 2019 â we began to wonder if we could incorporate process safety into the MBWA process. After reviewing our Loss of Primary Containment (LOPC) data â we determined a great place to start would be to have leaders looking for LOPC precursors â conditions and behavior which could lead to a LOPC event (e.g. vibration, unsupported pipe, etc.). Our Process Safety team created the education materials for this campaign in 6 modules:
- General awareness of process safety incidents
- LOPC from Pipes & Components
- LOPC from Major Equipment
- LOPC from Portable Equipment/Containers
- LOPC â Preventive Layers of Protection
- LOPC â Mitigative Layers of Protection
The paper and presentation will explain the antecedents for this initiative, the process we followed and how it has helped to strengthen leadership of process safety across our organization.
