(59d) Procedures and Practices for the Development and Use of Physical Property Models

Authors

Process modeling is widely used in conceptual design, detailed engineering, plant startup, and plant operations and maintenance. In turn, process modeling is enabled by models that capture the thermodynamic properties and phase behavior of the various chemical compounds in the process, whether they are the feedstocks, products, or undesired impurities. These property models must be reliable and accurate since they determine the modeling results. In addition, property models can serve as a virtual laboratory. These procedures and practices are elucidated through two cases studies: (1) Water dew Point; and (2) Methanol Purification.
