(29a) Efficiently Integrating Technology with Process Safety Management to Address Worker Fatigue

Human fatigue is a peculiar issue when it comes to process safety and risk management. On one hand, imagining fatigue as a factor that can lead to adverse incidents seems rational and intuitive. On the other, managing fatigue-related hazards and risks in practice can prove quite challenging. This talk outlines elements and benefits of a technology-supported human fatigue risk management system (FRMS) – a growingly popular approach in several high-hazard industries. We also discuss how an FRMS can be efficiently integrated into existing process and occupational safety management systems, and we present cutting-edge techniques and technologies that can help identify fatigue onset and progression.
