(52a) Diagnose and Resolved Design Issues and Overcome Surge Problems in Complex Fire Water Network

The firewater network in process plants are the creditable active & passive protection
layers of industry. Any/Minor issues or problems of either multiple or single
equipment’s can put the plant on risk. It design to handle all sort emergencies as per
demand without any single failures.

Since almost a decade, the lines and some auxiliary equipment of firewater network
system across complex failed, due to either high pressure or surge or some other
related issues. The problem not only limited to financial lose, but it generate major
process safety threat across the complex. During the failure & repairing, the part of
equipment/plant/package not completely or very limited cover the firewater protection.

To resolve the problem from root, the team had decided to begin the analysis of system
from basis until the performance test runs. Once the study was completed, number of
faults, bottlenecks, issues and facts were found. The journey had begun from the
development of design basis till reach to successful operation with zero failure.

The definite effective cost around the complex for such success is uncountable, since it
saved the whole complex from risk and keep the system on safe envelope. On other
hand, the maintenance, operation, utilities and manpower costs for frequent failure were
overcome.
