Dow, Inc. is a leading chemical manufacturer with a presence in over 150 countries. In order to support its many manufacturing plants, Dow must procure large amounts of electricity on a daily basis. Energy prices can be extremely volatile on high demand days. To help deal with uncertainty in the future energy prices, Dow can elect to buy and sell energy on a futures price or on the real-time spot price. To help our energy team make the best purchasing decisions on a daily basis, we have created a forecasting framework to accurately predict the future prices of electricity. In this talk, you’ll learn about the forecasting challenge for Dow, the data and statistical methods/tools used to implement the forecasts, and the value it’s delivering to the company.
