Scaling up chemical processes from laboratory to commercial scale is a common challenge that requires understanding the risks and uncertainties with the associated changes in scale. Mitigating these risks is a crucial part of technology commercialization. Pilot plants are valuable and often critical tools for reducing risks frequently associated with reaction, mixing, heat transfer and separations. This session focuses on sharing examples of using various types of pilot plants for process scaleup studies and lessons learned from these studies.
