Many petrochemical facilities are moving towards achieving a net-zero emissions facility. Data shows that as high as 3.5 percent of worldâs natural gas is burned in flares, wasting valuable energy resources and contributing to global greenhouse gas emissions. Both oil & gas and the chemical manufacturing industries are showing more interest in doing feasibility studies to evaluate the addition of flare gas recovery systems (FGRS) or flare gas recovery units (FGRU). These facilities believe that recovering the gas would not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also provide the facility with cost savings or revenue gain. However, recovering the flare gas in petrochemical facilities does not come without challenges, including inconsistent flow, composition and other process conditions. This presentation addresses some of the challenges that are associated with adding FGRS in a petrochemical facility.
