(130a) My First PHA Ended in a Safe Haven

What can 8 hours in a Safe Haven teach a process safety engineer that years of experience can't?

Years of working in the nuclear and chemical industries ingrained safety in the author. However, incidents and their consequences were faraway things that happened to others or in the past.

Near the beginning of the author's process safety career, an incident caused the site to shelter for 8 hours. It was during this incident that the author began to understand the deeply personal impacts of process safety. This paper will examine how that understanding has shifted the approach to all aspects of process safety.
