The Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) has developed a successful model to manage process safety hazards and risks and named as Risk Based Process Safety (RBPS). This process safety management system is composed by 20 elements that, when appropriated addressed, gives to the implementing company a sustainable operational structure.
Among the CCPS RBPS elements, we are focusing for this work, those related to emergency, crisis and business continuity plans. An important characteristic for the success of the CCPS RBPS is the connection and dependency between the elements and how they interact to each other.
Another aspect that is covered in the present work is that CCPS RBPS was originally designed for chemical process industries, and a different approach to the mining operations, and its characteristics, should be considered in order to reach every element goal.
The present work intends to present connection points among the elements, the way that each one help the others and the special approach to the specific mining operations at Vale Company.
