The process digitalization has demonstrated its benefit at different levels and various applications. However, there is no one solution fits all. The digital transformation should be aligned with the application, resources, business objective, and maturity level of the process and enterprise. Depending on the applications, from R&D to post manufacturing, the tools, approaches, and implementations should be defined and developed according to the strategic planning, technoeconomic analysis, and value driven approach.

In this presentation, different tools and approaches and their interconnection will be discussed with case studies from equipment design and scale-up, manufacturing, and process control. The cases and platforms will demonstrate a holistic approach for the industry 4.0, that each tool will serve a specific need along the life cycle of the process/product.
