(71b) Impact of HTML5 and Web-Based Solutions for Frontline Plant Workers.

The purpose of this abstract is to share insight on how a move from a client-server architecture to web-based architecture impacts frontline plant workers in process industries.

Mobile access to operational technology (OT) solutions such as a process control system, manufacturing execution system, engineering databases such as 2D and 3D digital twins, maintenance databases, process simulation, and data visualization through HTML5 interfaces can be significantly faster than a traditional client-server approach.

This abstract will discuss business benefits to organizations, work related benefits for frontline workers like technicians, engineers, and managers, as well as recent developments in automation, project, maintenance, and production engineering spaces. The author will share individual application examples in engineering, simulation, process control, maintenance, and plant up-keep, as well as a full stack application example available for visits by industry professionals at a US Government funded innovation institute located in Chicaco, IL.
