(55as) Challenges and Tools for Implementing a Strong PSM Program in a Corporation

The implementation of a process safety management (PSM) program can be very challenging for any company, especially if they are multinational with operations in different countries, where dissimilar realities are addressed. The main objective of this presentation is to discuss the challenges faced when implementing a PSM program due to the different degree of PSM maturity between the different company headquarters, cultural differences, level of existing regulations in each country, and lack of experience or knowledge in PSM of the workers. The tools used for an adequate PSM program implementation will also be discussed, such as Gap Assessment and Maturity Model, the importance of defining personnel roles (RACI chart) and the integration between existing HSE programs with PSM are crucial to have a strong safety corporate system.
