As the petrochemical industry tries to minimize production costs, the use of cost advantaged feeds becomes more and more attractive. However, such feeds may contain a larger amount of contaminants, many of which can poison current generation catalysts. Removal of the contaminants is effected by adsorbents, which need to combine high capacity for contaminants, with low reactivity with the highly reactive feeds (e.g. ethylene) found in petrochemical plants.
A breakthrough hybrid adsorbent, AZ-500, was developed to remove acid gas and polar components in a synergistic manner leading to an adsorbent with 20-45% higher capacity and lower polymerization potential. These characteristics provide solutions at lower Capital costs associated with smaller equipment size, plus reduced regeneration cost and CO2 footprint due to less frequent regeneration for the purification process.
